40 Hour Online RSO Training For Industrial Gauge Users

TOPIC 8: Radiation Work Permit for Gauges

Let’s explore radiation work permit for gauges.

As learned in the 40-hour RSO training the Radiation Work permit is a tool used by the RSO, for the staff, to perform certain regulated functions.  In this training, we amend the RWP to be tailored for use for the RELOCATION of FIXED GAUGES.

The following is the tutorial of the RWP and its use for this ADVANCED activity on FIXED GAUGES.

The radiation work permit usually has an RWP number that is non-repeating, or at least starts with the year, and then is non-repeating throughout the year.

First, you put the date and the time when the RWP is issued. Then there is a description of the work and the date the RWP expires. Then you put the gauge information, the particular gauges location and serial number.

The next portion of the radiation work permit is the precautions.

As you perform each of these tasks, check upon completion.  Once you’ve completed this part of the form, you are pretty well done with the radiation work permit.

The final check of the radiation work permit is when the RSO unlocks the shutter and returns the gauge to service  New or reinstall gauges may need to have to be wipe tested and surveyed upon installation. The radiation signs need to be installed.

Once all this is completed, the authorized user signs and dates the document.

After the radiation work permit has been completed, the RSO must sign and the document.

Dose for the employees must be documented through a third party dosimetry service; or the RADIATION WORK PERMIT Which requires:  Regulatory approval.

Before using the radiation work permit, it must be approved by the regulatory agency.
